Express is the basic plan from 8×8. It offers unlimited calls in the UK, plus unlimited video and audio calls. It might not have the bells and whistles of more premium plans, but it gets the job done for small businesses in the UK. If you’re making international calls often, the X2 plan for £19 a month per user may work out cheaper for you. However, the first month free trial is only available for the Express.

Features of 8×8 Express:

The Express might be simple, but it works on mobile and desktop alongside any existing cloud system like Office 365. If you want to keep your budget low or dip your toes into VoIP, 8×8 is a good place to start. Here are the features you get on their Express service.

The Standard plan is, however, limited. Sole traders and small businesses will probably be fine, but just keep an eye on how many minutes you’re using.

One nice feature of even the standard plan on Gamma is that you can make a Group for calls. Basically, go into your settings and make a group (they should all have a similar job role). Whenever a call comes in, all of their phones will ring. This is a simple and affordable way to optimise your customer service.

You sadly don’t have free unlimited calls, but Gamma does give you quite a bit for the price. Each user gets 2000 free landline and 2000 free mobile phone minutes. As far as cloud based telephones go, Gamma is a decent option for the price.

The VoIP service does come with a video conferencing app (Vonage Meetings) that on this price plan can host up to 16 people. The more expensive plans can go over 100.

If you’re looking for a basic, uncomplicated plan Vonage Select could work for you. Just keep an eye on your minutes and bills. 8×8 Express or Wildix is likely a better choice for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

One unique thing about Lily is that you get an account manager. They’ll basically guide you through the VoIP set-up and help you pick what features you need. This makes Lily a great choice for any business that hasn’t used VoIP before and needs a budget option.

The Essentials package does what it says on the tin. You do get an app for desktop and mobile, so you can make VoIP calls on the go. RingCentral also have an inhouse messaging system and video conferencing app, so you don’t have to get another communication system on top of everything else.

What about fax? RingCentral is one of the few providers that offers internet faxing on their VoIP plans. But, if you want unlimited faxing, you’ll have to go on the Standard Plan. Overall, the Essentials is basic but can be restrictive.

At £9 a month, Vonage Select is one of the cheapest VoIP services alongside 8×8 Express at £10 a month per user. Other providers can come close to these cheap prices if you stick to a basic plan.

Is it cheaper to pay monthly for VoIP?
